Our Story

The Alpha Nu Sigma Chapter was founded in 1947 in Oakland, California, by Bro. Andrew McCarter. Bro. McCarter’s ingenuity has led to an abundance of Sigma men in Northern California whose reach ranges from Sacramento to Fresno. For over 70 years, the chapter has been a driving force in Northern California, with our chapter members actively engaged in local government, law enforcement, business, the faith-based community, commerce, media, and education. The Alpha Nu Sigma Chapter strives to strengthen the African American male by serving as campus advisors at the University of California-Berkeley and California State University East Bay University.
